4. Do not guarantee Darius Miller

Except for when he was waived in 2014, Darius Miller has only played for the Pelicans since he was taken with the 46th pick in the 2012 Draft. Unfortunately for the Kentucky product, it is time for the Pelicans to move on from the 30-year-old small forward.

Miller has worked as hard as anyone to get into the league and stay there. In the time of the college one and done, he was at Kentucky for four years. Miller made his debut as a 22-year-old and has been a decent bench piece night in and night out.

As mentioned, Miller was waived back in 2014 before heading overseas to play in Germany. He worked his way back to the Pelicans roster at the start of the 2017-18 season, where he signed a multi-year deal.

This season, if the Pelicans guarantee the final year of his contract, Miller will be due $7.0 million. There are a number of issues in the way of Miller’s contract being guaranteed, one of which is that he hasn’t played since the 2018-19 season due to an Achilles injury.

The thought of an injury costing a player so much money is awful, but the Pelicans need to think about their future. If they guarantee Miller, there is a good chance of losing either Favors or Ingram.
