Dallas Mavericks

Thanks to the dynamic duo of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, the Dallas Mavericks made the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2016. They pushed the top-heavy LA Clippers to six games before their eventual exit, assuring the world that the future is bright in Dallas. If they want to accelerate the title-contending process, landing Buddy Hield might give them a jumpstart.

The Dallas Mavericks’ offense was historically great this season, finishing with an offensive rating of 115.9, the highest in NBA history. After achieving a feat like that, breaking up their roster for Hield might seem puzzling, but his prolific 3-point shooting and floor spacing could do wonders for Dallas’s ascending star duo.

While there is certainly not much to complain about with Doncic and Porzingis, who are just 21 and 25-years-old, respectively, one area to pick at is their 3-point shooting. With Doncic shooting only 31.6 percent and Porzingis 35.2 from deep on the year, Dallas wisely surrounded the two with electric 3-point shooters for enhanced floor spacing, hence their historically great offense.

Tim Hardaway Jr. served as the third fiddle in Dallas, and his 39.8 percent 3-point shooting this season undoubtedly elevated the play of that tandem the most. However, there is no question that Buddy Hield, the reigning 3-point contest champion, would be an immediate upgrade over Hardaway offensively.

Teams already have their hands full trying to contain Doncic and Porzingis. If those two are swinging the ball out to Hield on the perimeter, good luck to opposing defenses.
