Milwaukee Bucks trade partner No. 1: Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks were second in the league in pick and roll possessions averaging 26.8 per game. 58.5 percent of those possessions belonged to Trae Young as he averaged 11.0 per game. He shot 42.4 percent from the field on 11.3 attempts during these possessions. The field goal percentage allowed him to generate 15.3 points per game.

Young’s pick and roll production contributed to the team shooting 46.9 percent from the field on 66.5 attempts with him on the court. The field goal percentage helped them generate 86.1 points.

Unfortunately, the offense comes to a halt when Young goes to the bench as his backup didn’t perform well in the pick and roll. Jeff Teague shot 37.2 percent from the field on 3.1 attempts per game in 4 pick and roll possessions. The field goal percentage helped him generate 3.2 points per game.

Teague’s pick and roll production contributed to the team shooting 41.1 percent from the field on 31 attempts without Young on the court. The field goal percentage helped them generate 34.7 points. Bledsoe’s pick and roll success would help Atlanta be more productive with Young on the bench.

More importantly, the team can acquire him without giving up any significant assets. Atlanta can open up $28.5 million in cap space by renouncing Teague’s cap hold. The move would allow Atlanta to absorb Bledsoe’s $16.8 million salary into their cap space.

The Bledsoe salary dump would be the first step in a series of moves to open up cap space to participate in free agency. Milwaukee is currently $ 21 million over the cap, as it is tentatively scheduled to remain flat at $109 million.
