4. Charlotte Hornets offseason needs: Guarantee Caleb Martin

The Charlotte Hornets drafted Coby Martin with the 36th pick in the 2019 NBA draft. Unfortunately for his identical twin Caleb Martin he went undrafted and had to work his way onto the Hornets roster the hard way.

Caleb Martin signed an exhibit 10 contract at the end of July last season. This was then converted to a two-way contract just prior to the season commencing in October before signing a three year partially guaranteed contract on the same day.

Martin has shown enough in his short NBA career to make the hierarchy of the Hornets believe that he has the potential to be a solid bench contributor. In his 18 games Martin averaged 6.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.7 steals in 17.6 minutes per game.

The undrafted Martin was assigned and recalled from the Greensborough Swarm seven times throughout the season. During these assignments Martin played 28 games averaging 21.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 36.9 minutes per game.

These G-League numbers are certainly enough to guarantee the $1.5 million on his contract. He is going to continue to grow and develop either in the NBA or the G-League. His numbers are actually better than his brothers in their first seasons.

The other number which is impressive is his 54.1 percent from deep on 2.1 shot attempts per game. If he can continue to shoot similar numbers next season he will provide a viable floor spacing option on the bench.
