2. Charlotte Hornets offseason needs: Use NBA Draft picks well.

The Charlotte Hornets have three picks in the upcoming draft. We have already talked about how they were able to move up the draft order to number three. However, they also have two second-round picks. These are number 32 and number 56, which they received from the Celtics.

Focusing on the second-round picks to begin with, they can be used in a number of ways. To trade Batum, the Hornets are going to need to attach picks. They are not going to want to give up pick three this season so they could attach these if it helps get the deal done.

With the third pick, the Hornets need to get a piece to move the franchise forward. While they are pretty set at the guard position, if LaMelo Ball falls to third then they would be wise to draft him. At 6’8″ he is a true playmaker and has the size to play multiple positions.

However, where the Hornets are lacking the most is at the center position. While Cody Zeller has been a truly solid, dependable player, it is time for the Hornets to find a big who is going to move them into the next level.

This is going to come down to what the team who holds the second pick decide to do. Currently the Warriors hold the pick but if they trade it to another team, they may have different needs. If James Wiseman is not taken with that pick, the Hornets need to select him.

Wiseman has the ability to stretch the floor and also adds a further defensive presence to the Hornets. This alone could get them back into the playoffs as early as next season.
