3. Some consistency, please

Sekou Doumbouya had some real highs this season, in short bursts at least. On his now-famed West Coast road trip, he looked like he could hang against a murderers’ row including LeBron James, Draymond Green and Kawhi Leonard all in a week’s time. Not long after, he dunked Tristan Thompson into the middle of whenever the next pandemic is.

But after that, somehow the magic wore off and he looked utterly lost. The Detroit Pistons aren’t going to be expecting him to go toe to toe with LeBron James and Anthony Davis too often, but not being invisible is going to be the first step for him in 2020-21.

Consistency is key, and it’s likely to take some time even with a year in the NBA under his belt now. Rookies are rarely good, even if they show flashes of great potential, and that was no exception for Doumbouya.

More time and exposure to the league, as well as additional NBA coaching under Casey and his staff will help. In addition, some extra work now that players are working out and practicing in an NBA-sanctioned format in their own facilities should go a long way to preparing him for the coming season.
