Chicago Bulls: 5 roster moves they must make this offseason
5. Trade Thaddeus Young
In his 13 years in the NBA, Thaddeus Young has shown what he is capable of. He has averaged 13.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game. At the age of 32, he still has plenty to offer a contender.
He is also a reasonably low-cost alternative for a team that may be close to the salary cap. He is only due $13.5 million next season which is cheap for the production he offers. Also, if he does not work out, he is low risk.
The final year of Young’s contract is worth $14.1 million, but it is not guaranteed. This gives his new team options when they are going to be entering the 2021-22 free agency period. In return, the Bulls need to get a much younger piece and hopefully a pick.
At 32, Young is actually the oldest player on the Bulls roster. He is their only player over 30. If the Bulls want a veteran presence, they should sign a player in free agency to a deal that better suits the Bulls timeline.
Despite their poor recent record, the Bulls are in a good position to contend for playoffs in the next couple of seasons. Their core is developing together, if they can stay healthy, they have all the pieces required for the future.
