Philadelphia 76ers: 3 players not likely to return in 2020-21

This is a pivotal offseason for the Philadelphia 76ers, although it may not bring the expected explosive departures from the roster.

When the Philadelphia 76ers were swept out of the first round of the postseason, it felt like the end of an era had arrived. And indeed, it had for at least one member of the organization, with coach Brett Brown being shown the door in the immediate aftermath of the Orlando exit.

Where the franchise goes from here is a fascinating question. The young core, led by Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, was supposed to be nearing title contention by now. Instead, they have just two series victories in the past three years, although health and one lucky Kawhi Leonard bounce could’ve changed that.

Questionable decisions last offseason, particularly in regards to the contracts doled out to Al Horford and Tobias Harris, have exacerbated the pressure around the organization. There’s a desire to move out from under those contracts this fall, but unless an amnesty clause emerges in the CBA (or the Sixers are willing to attach some young talent or extra compensation), dealing those two away doesn’t seem likely.

In other words, it feels like the core of this roster is sticking together for one more ride, with a coach to be named later. If the 76ers can’t make it to the conference finals next season, the whole roster will probably be blown to smithereens.
