5. Re-sign Shabazz Napier

Since coming into the NBA, Shabazz Napier has had seven teams in six years. He was only with the Denver Nuggets for one day before he was traded to the Washington Wizards for Jordan McRae. Thanks to the COVID-19 hiatus, the Wizards did not get to see what they truly traded for.

Napier is an undersized point guard at 6’0″ and has made a career using speed and his shooting ability. Despite playing for so many teams, with inconsistent minutes, Napier has been able to shoot the ball at 34.5 percent from deep.

At the age of 29, Napier is three years younger than his competition for the backup point guard position Ish Smith. He is also likely to be signed for less money than the $6.1 million Smith is getting next season.

If they can re-sign Napier at a low cost, they can then look to trade Smith. This opens up more room in the salary cap for the Wizards, which is going to be crucial when they try and re-sign Bertans.

So much is up in the air for the Wizards this offseason. However, with these roster moves, they go a long way to securing their future, at least for the time that Wall and Beal are contracted for, which is until the end of the 2022-23 season, if they both opt-in that year.
