2. Draft well.

As mentioned earlier, the Wizards have two picks in the upcoming draft. The second-round pick has a good potential to be on the roster next year.  However, it is the ninth pick which we will focus on.

The Wizards have a nice young core they are putting around their experienced backcourt of Wall and Beal. However, these pieces have been 6’8″ and above and are all frontcourt players. While this is sensible, the last couple of seasons have shown that the Wizards need a quality backcourt piece.

If he is still available, Devin Vassell would be a tremendous option. He is a really good size at 6’7″ and has the versatility to play both guard positions. He also has time to develop behind Wall and Beal, coming into his prime when both guards are on the decline.

Vassell is also a tremendous rebounder for a guard which helps the Wizards with their biggest Achilles heel. His stat-line from last season at Florida state was12.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.

It is this all-round game that will allow him to play as a backup for both Wall and Beal. However, he can also play the wing position in a three-guard lineup which could be difficult to stop for opposition teams.

The other benefit of Vassell is his ability to space the floor. For his two college seasons, Vassell shot the ball at 41.7 percent from deep. If the Wizards can re-sign Bertans, this will make them extremely dangerous on the offensive end.
