1. Detroit Pistons

Maybe we’re being overly harsh by having the Detroit Pistons top this list. But when you look at their roster and how it is constructed, where are they going and what are they doing? With Blake Griffin going to be around for some time on big bucks, the Pistons are locked into an unhappy marriage with him.

It’s one in which he will miss a lot of games through injury. Even when on the court, Griffin won’t be the athletic marvel he once was. Crazy as it is to think, Griffin is 30 now, and some unfortunate injuries look to have broken down his body at a time when he should still be in his prime.

That’s part of the problem though because Griffin alone will still win the Pistons some games, just not enough to be relevant while ensuring they aren’t the absolute worst team in the east.

Looking at the rest of the roster,  there isn’t a ton going on here. outside Christian Wood. The only problem there is that Wood is an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Wood is without doubt the best young player the Pistons have, and they should be able to sign him to a long-term deal. However, he is sure to attract interest from around the league, and some of these potential destinations are going to be better basketball situations as well. If Wood does leave, the situation in Detroit gets a whole lot worse.

Other than that, Detroit has one more year of Derrick Rose to look forward to. He has turned himself into a reliable sixth man in the last couple of seasons.

Such middling to below-average players like Tony Snell and Thon Maker don’t excite with no young starlet in position to take over one day either. This is the final aspect of why the Pistons top this list. They have the seventh pick in what is considered a weak draft class. They could unearth a gem, but it is more likely they don’t, keeping the franchise rolling on this underwhelming path for some time yet.
