Shooting

Do not let the bubble games fool you. The step Lonzo Ball took this season as a shooter is indicative of a massive step forward and raises the ceiling on him as a player in this league. He attempted a career-high 6.3 3-point attempts per game this season and shot an impressive 37.5 percent from long range. This ranked him 16th in the league among players who attempted at least five 3-point shots per game.

The seeding games were a brutal exhibition for Lonzo and have left a bad taste in people’s mouths. Do not let an eight-game sample size in strange conditions outweigh a season of progress. He took what was considered his biggest weakness and made it a strength.

Another important shooting development for him this season is his increased shooting when he is off the ball. After averaging 32.3 percent on 3.3 catch and shoot attempts per game two seasons ago, he improved to 38.1 percent on 4.3 attempts per game this past year .

Lonzo Ball is getting better as the lead playmaker of a team while also developing as a secondary playmaker if he plays with a more ball-dominant option. This would give the Pistons the option to run the offense with any combination of Ball, Rose, Kennard or any other guard they bring in, diversifying the offense.
