Detroit Pistons: 4 reason to make a trade for Lonzo Ball
By Corey Rausch
As the offseason rumor mill continues to churn, the Detroit Pistons are looking for a point guard. Why should the answer to that question be Lonzo Ball?
Rumors circulated after a miserable bubble experience for Lonzo Ball that he may be on the block, even after the third-year guard had the best season of his career this year with the New Orleans Pelicans. The stakes have just been ratcheted up for a team that has the Most Improved Player in Brandon Ingram and one of the most exciting rookies in recent memory, Zion Williamson.
If Lonzo ends up being available, a team like the Detroit Pistons should be calling the Pelicans. They are in search of their point guard of the future. While they could simply draft one of the myriad of point guards available to them with the seventh pick in the draft, it does not hurt to explore all options.
There are plenty of trade packages that help bring the guard to Detroit if the Pistons would like to go down that track. They could absorb additional players if the Pelicans are interested in multiple players on the Pistons roster. It is also possible to structure a swap around either Luke Kennard or Derrick Rose for Ball.
Rather than covering how they could get the deal done, it’s important to acknowledge why they should do the move. It has been a hot topic since the elimination of the Houston Rockets to discuss the swap of Russell Westbrook and Blake Griffin. Rather than making such a risky win-now move that eliminates much of the team’s financial flexibility, there are simple reasons to go with Lonzo Ball.
