1. Draft well

The New York Knicks, as discussed in the previous slide, have had a patchy draft history. Their biggest success of the last few years was Kristaps Porzingis and he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

The Knicks have two first-round picks and a second-round pick in the upcoming 2020 Draft. The eighth pick is the one we will focus on and this is hopefully the pick that will have the most impact on this team. With it, the Knicks should select small forward Devin Vassell.

While the Knicks already have a young small forward in Kevin Knox, he has been less than impressive with just 6.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in his sophomore season. These numbers are well down on his rookie season where he averaged 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds a night.

Vassell has the appearance of being an upgrade on Knox. Also standing 6’7″, he is 20 lbs lighter and is more suited to the wing role. He was a solid floor spacer at Florida State and their leading scorer with 12.7 points per game in a system that relied on team scoring.

He also was an aggressive defender in college and the Knicks need help on perimeter defense, ranking 28th in the league for 3-point percentage allowed last season. This would be another nice young piece to add to the growing level of young talent with the Knicks.
