Pacers trades involving Myles Turner: Boston Celtics

It’s tough to say that the Boston Celtics need a center given the step forward they seem to have taken this year replacing Al Horford in the lineup with an amalgamation of Daniel Theis, Enes Kanter and Robert Williams. Something about the defensive core of Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Mylers Turner just screams title potential though.

Gordon Hayward is a hometown kid who played college at Butler. He could be a returning hero on a huge expiring contract. His health and contract have made some people forget just how good he is.

His time in Boston may be cursed but his number are still solid, averaging 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists on shooting splits of .500/.383/.855 this season. This would give the team a one year trial run with a lineup of Malcolm Brogdon-Victor Oladipo-T.J.Warren-Gordon Hayward-Domantas Sabonis.

To make the math work, the Pacers would have to send back either Jeremy Lamb or Doug McDermott, but it’s worth it to take a chance on a former All-Star regaining that form. If he does, the ceiling for this Pacers team immediately rises. It may even be enough to convince both Hayward and Oladipo to stay.

Should the experiment fail, the only loss in the long-term is the additional years of Myles Turner. Potentially convincing Boston that they do not have the roster spots for all three of their first round selections this year may be able to sweeten the deal even further.
