Pacers trades involving Myles Turner: Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks only really need a center for defensive purposes, so trading for Myles Turner makes sense for them. For the Pacers, they could bring back three players who play off the bench for them, all of who have upside they have shown in flashes.

Maxi Kleber is the ideal center to have coming off the bench for a playoff team. He averaged 6.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game on a low usage rate this past season. He is hustle and will immediately endear himself to the fan base. And to make things better, he will bring two more capable 3-point shooters to the roster with him in Justin Jackson and Delon Wright.

This gives Indiana additional future flexibility financially. Going into the 2021 offseason, the team would only have two players making more than $13 million and would open up a sizable chunk of cap space. While they would not be the top free-agent destination, boasting a core of Malcolm Brogdon, Domantas Sabonis, T. J. Warren and that money is a strong start.

If the team is simply looking to save money, get out of this long term commitment and play more of a long game this plan makes sense. It would hurt to essentially salary dump Turner, and ultimately may not be worth it, but it is worth exploring.
