Indiana Pacers: Possible Victor Oladipo trade packages
By Corey Rausch
Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks are continuing to look at all options to build around Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis without encroaching on their 2021 cap space. While they will only have about $25 million according to current projections anything they can do to continue to keep that in place feels worthwhile.
This trade makes sense for the Mavericks but finding a worthwhile return for the Pacers gets tougher. Something along the lines of Justin Jackson, Jalen Brunson and Delon Wright makes the math work and adds additional shooting depth to the bench for the Pacers but does nothing to return the star power Oladipo boasts at his peak.
This move only makes sense if the Pacers complete their goal of signing Mike D’Antoni to be their next head coach. The roster will need to be transformed to field more capable shooters from deep. Justin Jackson showed in his second season, across two teams, that he is a capable shooter, hitting for 35.5 percent from long range on 3.0 attempts per game.
That regressed this season but the skills are there. Bronson shot 35.8 percent this season and a solid playmaker off the bench. Wright has shot a solid percentage on far too few attempts, the Mike D’Antoni reclamation project special.
This is the type of move that is unsexy and fans will boo about. Until the playoffs come and Coach D’Antoni’s offense is bombing from outside. With any other coach though this is a stay away.
