Detroit Pistons: 5 roster moves they must make in the coming offseason
5. Re-sign John Henson
Acquired as part of the Drummond trade, John Henson is a little bit of an enigma. In a league full of huge personalities, Henson just goes about his business. He even quietly developed a 3-point shot in his last season with the Milwaukee Bucks.
At 6’9″ Henson has the size of a natural power forward but has the strength to play the center spot. If he starts next to a healthy Blake Griffin, his lack of height will become less of an issue, meaning he can be an effective center for the Pistons.
If he comes off the bench behind Wood, then Henson will provide the opposition a different type of player to stop. Henson will simply work hard every possession and the coaching staff will know what they are going to get from him. This is crucial during a rebuild.
On top of that, it means they can move away from ex-Bucks project Thon Maker who has not developed into his potential. The Pistons can also sign a low-cost center to help do the dirty work under the basket, saving Griffin’s body … hopefully.
While these moves will probably not see the Pistons back into the playoffs next season, they have the chance to build off a relatively clean slate. Let us hope they can stay healthy during this process.
