Detroit Pistons: 5 roster moves they must make in the coming offseason
4. Guarantee Bruce Brown
Bruce Brown, the second-year defensive specialist was pressed into service as a starter for the second straight season. His ability as a stopper has never been in question, the ability to create for himself and others has always been the issue.
Well, in his second season Brown stood up and showed that he can run a team, admittedly one where most of the stars were injured. He had career highs in most statistical categories averaging 8.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.1 steals in 28.2 minutes per game.
He even improved his shooting efficiency going 44.3 percent from the floor and 34.4 percent from deep. Last season he shot 39.8 percent from the floor and 25.8 percent from deep. Despite being a natural shooting guard, he was often running the point.
However, when he played off-ball Brown was able to carve out his spot in the corner where he took 62.5 percent of his 3-point attempts and made 41.7 percent of them. This is a skill the Pistons need to cultivate moving forward.
This will give them the potential to have all five players on the court at any given time as floor spacers. Given that his contract is only $1.6 million for next season, Brown’s versatility to play and defend both guard positions makes this almost a no-brainer.
