The Detroit Pistons are finally in the middle of a much-needed rebuild. Here are five roster moves they must make in the coming offseason.

The 2019-20 season for the Detroit Pistons was one dominated by injury. Their only starters who were relatively unaffected by the injury curse were Tony Snell and Andre Drummond. Reggie Jackson, Luke Kennard and Blake Griffin were all long-term outs for the team.

Snell, Drummond and Derrick Rose provided much of the impetus for the Pistons this season. Bruce Brown and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk provided what they could with their skill set and for a while, the Pistons were challenging for the playoffs.

Unfortunately, the season length proved too much and the front office decided to salvage what they could from the season. They traded Andre Drummond to the Cleveland Cavaliers and in return, they got John Henson, Brandon Knight and the least favorable 2023 pick of the Cavaliers or the Golden State Warriors.

This appears to have been a salary dump as Drummond was due $28 million next season should he have opted in to the final year of the deal. In return, the Pistons got two players who they hoped to have time to assess before COVID-19 stopped the season for the Pistons.

The Detroit Pistons roster setup

This coming season the Pistons have only four players on guaranteed contracts. They also have Snell who has a player option, Mykhailiuk on a team option, and three players who are not guaranteed yet for next season.

While the team would probably like to see Snell take up his option, he may opt out and test his value on the market in this free agency period. At 28 Snell might see the window to be a valuable contributor on a championship team closing.

The Pistons have only got the seventh pick in the 2020 draft and this starts off our five roster moves, the Detroit Pistons need to make this offseason. While these moves will not fix them for next year, it will help position themselves for the coming seasons.
