Utah Jazz

Detroit reportedly kicked around the idea of trading for Mike Conley at the trade deadline of the 2018-2019 season to fortify their playoff run before balking at the price tag. After one inconsistent season with the Utah Jazz, his new team may be looking to simply unload his remaining $34.5 million in salary.

This would be a scenario where the Pistons should ask for future picks. The only young prospect of note that the Jazz may consider parting with is Tony Bradley and the Jazz do not have their first-round draft selection next season.

Looking off into the future gets murky depending on if Donovan Mitchell indeed signs his max contract extension when it is offered and if Utah blows up the core of Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. Rolling the dice further down the line (like 2023 or 2024) could pay huge dividends if Mitchell irritates enough to seek out in the future.

Conley still has something to give and would be a bigger contract number version of the aforementioned James Johnson plan. Flipping him at the deadline as an expiring could bring the Pistons even more assets if he is able to turn it around next season.

For a team with Derrick Rose as the only point guard on the roster, Conley could also serve as a solid mentor for a half-season for whoever the Pistons draft this year.
