Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 roster moves for the coming offseason
5. Guarantee Naz Reid
While this move will not move the needle very far, Naz Reid is a solid piece for the Minnesota Timberwolves. At just 20 years of age, Reid was able to produce for the team every time his number was called.
In just 30 games, Reid averaged 9.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He even started 11 games when Towns was out. An undersized center at 6’9″, Reid has added a number of strings to his bow.
His shooting from deep is solid for a first-year backup center. On 3.2 attempts from deep, he is hitting 33.0 percent of them. This means that opposing defenses need to respect the floor spacing his shooting provides.
What is even better for the Timberwolves front office is that Reid is due only $1.5 million next season if they guarantee the deal. Looking even further forward, he has two further years where he earns less than $2 million per year.
If Reid can continue to develop over this time, the Timberwolves project will be an incredible value for the team. This will create more space for higher-level signings in the coming years. However, if the Timberwolves decide to trade him, he will add value to any deal.
