Jacque Vaughn

Jacque Vaughn took over with the Brooklyn Nets without much fanfare after a downer of a run with the Orlando Magic a few years back. He only got 10 regular season games, mostly with a depleted roster, to show that he deserved the head coaching job.

Should he be let go by the Nets for a glitzier name, the Pacers should move to bring him in quickly. Over his 10 game sample the Nets ranked sixth in 3-point attempts, 15th in free throw attempts and seventh in offensive rating.

Vaughn showed poise and composure and took everything one day at a time. If he was able to coach a team to those type of statistical markers that was missing five of its top eight players what could it do with the like of Sabonis, T.J. Warren and Malcolm Brogdon.

In the bubble, missing most of their roster, Vaughn coached a team with little to play for and fewer expectations to a 5-3 record in the seeding games that saw them compete against and even beat some of the very best. Vaughn proved that he is still capable of getting the very best out of his players. While Nate McMillan was able to do that on the defensive end the offense needs to take that next step.
