Indiana Pacers: 6 top head coaching candidates to consider
By Corey Rausch
Becky Hammon
Another former All-Star player who is more than ready to be an NBA head coach, Becky Hammon has been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. For the uninitiated Hammon was a 6-time WNBA All-Star, 4-time All-WNBA player and led the league in assists in 2007. She is more decorated than many of the former players that get head coaching jobs and has paid her dues.
Hammon transitioned to coaching following a torn ACL. She started by attending Spurs practices and giving opinions and Gregg Popovich took notice. She was hired as an assistant six years ago and has been on the bench ever since.
Becky Hammon has been a part of the coaching staff for the All-Star game and led the Spurs to a Summer League title as well. She has been integral in developing the raw young talent in San Antonio and is considered one of the sharper minds in the league.
Will Hardy is widely considered the coach in waiting in San Antonio so it is time for Becky Hammon to find her own opportunity. Given how important the WNBA, it is time for one of their best to make it to the ranks of head coach.
