Dallas Mavericks: 5 ‘tough vets’ to pursue this upcoming free agency
By Dalton Sell
Marvin Williams
Perhaps the most under the radar name on this list is Marvin Williams, currently a member of the league-best Milwaukee Bucks. The big man has done a fine job after coming over mid-season to backup the reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, but nothing that puts him over the top on anyone’s soon-to-be free agent lists, including the Dallas Mavericks.
However, in Game 3 of Milwaukee’s first-round matchup against the Orlando Magic, Williams made some headlines after his scuffle with James Ennis. After getting entangled below the basket fighting for a rebound, a fight nearly ensued, which led to both players getting ejected. When asked about it moving forward, Williams showed no signs of forgiveness. Via Mike Ehrmann of the Wisconsin State Journal:
"“There’s certainly not going to be any apologies,” Williams told reporters during a video conference Sunday afternoon from inside the NBA bubble at Walt Disney World. “I know my teammates know that I want to be there for them any way I possible can, but like I said, at the end of the day I’m a man and I’m always going to stand up for myself. So, I’m not going to apologize to James or to anybody for standing up for myself. No.”"
That type of hardened mentality fits the profile of what Dallas could be searching for on the free-agent market. Williams is not all talk either, serving as a stellar role player for the Bucks as he averaged 5.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in their first-round series against Orlando. Marvin Williams could be a cheap addition this offseason, and the Dallas Mavericks should have him on their radar to boost the frontcourt depth.
