The New York Knicks are expected to be one of several teams that will pursue forward Davis Bertans in free agency. These are three reasons it’s a good idea.
Making 200 3-pointers in a season isn’t an easy feat. John Starks is the only player in New York Knicks franchise history to do it, and he did it back in the 1994-95 season when the 3-pointer was treated like the mid-range game is now. Eight players hit that significant benchmark this season. Davis Bertans was one of them.
Bertans had a breakout debut season for the Washington Wizards, and now he’s expected to be one of the most sought after free agents during the upcoming offseason — whenever that is.
According to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports, the Knicks are one of the teams expected to pursue Bertans. The Atlanta Hawks and Phoenix Suns will be among New York’s competitors, per Hughes.
But there may not be a team in the league that needs Bertans more than the Knicks. The offense under former head coach David Fizdale was a train wreck. New York just finished in the bottom third of the NBA in offensive efficiency for the second consecutive year.
The Knicks need any help they can get on offense, and Bertans would provide a much-needed scoring punch. These are three reasons for the Knicks to pursue Bertans in free agency.
