After falling back in the lottery yet again, the New York Knicks have a big decision to make about the No. 8 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Well, that happened. To the surprise of no one, the New York Knicks unlucky streak in the draft lottery continued on Wednesday night when they dropped two spots to the No. 8 pick in the NBA draft. The Knicks famously haven’t moved up since they won the whole thing in 1985, and drafted Patrick Ewing.

But of the many Knicks draft lotto failures, this one doesn’t sting too badly. Moving into the top four would’ve been great, but this isn’t the year to complain because the 2020 draft is perceived by experts to be a weaker draft.

Next time the lottery happens — whenever that is — is when Knicks’ fans need to cross their fingers. With no franchise player to miss out on this year, saving up more than three decades worth of luck for the stacked 2021 draft seems fine.

Despite failing to move up, the Knicks still have a tough decision to make. This is the first draft for Leon Rose’s regime, and the unique circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic make scouting potential picks more challenging than ever.

A virtual combine and virtual interviews are less than ideal for a rookie POBO. Rose is likely to lean on his experienced staff now more than ever during this process. But Rose and his team have options.
