Sixers: Adam Silver is to blame for this pitiful team

Adam Silver deserves some blame for the state of the Sixers

The Philadelphia 76ers are in a pitiful place. Just two years ago, the Sixers were well on their way to reaching out and grabbing one of the brightest futures in the NBA.

Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons reached stardom far quicker than even the most optimistic of Sixers fans expected. The team had leverage by way of draft picks. They could add talent underneath their core and fill in the gaps.

Somehow, Philly looks well on its way to a first-round exit from the 2020 NBA Playoffs, asking more from their only healthy star than he even has to give. It’s in the realm of possibility the Boston Celtics sweep the Sixers.

How did this go wrong? Brett Brown shoulders most of the blame these days. That’s fair. The offense looks incoherent most of the time, especially without Simmons.

Elton Brand comes second with blame. That’s also fair. His signing of Tobias Harris and Al Horford to behemoth contracts is inexcusable and will haunt the team’s books for years to come.

In the back of people’s minds these days are Bryan and Jerry Colangelo, who more or less toppled this team’s future that was set up by Sam Hinkie with a vision that didn’t connect with where the team had come from. Again, fair.

There’s a long list of names who deserve blame.

One name goes under the radar in the widespread NBA discussions about the Sixers and responsibility. Adam Silver.
