5. Xavier Henry

Halfway through this list and there are still players like Xavier Henry, who didn’t play more than a season with the Grizzlies. Memphis’ draft track record prior to the past couple of years is really that bad.

Memphis took the guard/forward out of Kansas with the 12th overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft. Henry only spent one season with the Jayhawks, so a large learning curve was to be expected when he entered the league.

As a rookie, Henry played in 38 games and started 16 of them for a Grizzlies team that managed to sneak into the playoffs. He averaged 4.3 points and 1.0 rebounds per game, though he struggled from the field, shooting just 11.8 percent from 3-point range.

That proved to be Henry’s only season in Memphis. In January 2012, Henry was sent to the New Orleans Hornets in a deal that netted the Grizzlies forward Mo Speights. Speights was essentially a full-time starter for the rest of that season, a role Henry would never fill in his career.

Henry spent a couple of seasons with the Hornets and a couple of seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he averaged 10.0 points per game in 2013-14. He’s been out of the league for several seasons now.
