Memphis Grizzlies: Ranking the last 10 first-round NBA draft picks
9. Wade Baldwin IV
Wade Baldwin IV turned 24 years old in March. Despite being so young, the guard finds himself out of the NBA. If that’s not an indication of how Baldwin panned out in Memphis, it’s not clear what would be better.
Memphis took the Vanderbilt product with the 17th pick of the 2016 NBA Draft. The first game of his career portended good things, as Baldwin put together a well-rounded stat line: seven points, five rebounds, six assists, three steals, three blocks, one victory. It would prove to be one of the few highlights in his Grizzlies career.
Throughout his rookie season, Baldwin jumped between Memphis and the Iowa Energy, Memphis’ D-League affiliate. In 33 games with the Grizzlies, the guard averaged 3.2 points and 1.8 assists per game. He also played in three postseason games.
And that was all she wrote for Baldwin in Memphis. Before the 2017-18 season even began, the Grizzlies waived Baldwin, who proceeded to sign a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. He spent two seasons in the Pacific Northwest, playing in just 23 games before becoming an oft-used trade chip in 2019.
Baldwin IV spent the past season with Olympiacos BC in Greece. An NBA comeback doesn’t appear to be on the horizon, as he signed a contract with Bayern Munich this past July.
