Memphis Grizzlies: Ranking the last 10 first-round NBA draft picks
10. Tony Wroten
Full disclosure: the amount of distance separating the first seven or eight people on this list is minuscule. If the amount of pain wrought on Grizzlies fans was a factor, Tony Wroten would not be the first name here; that honor is reserved for an obvious candidate.
Memphis selected Wroten with the 25th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. The guard was a First Team All-Pac-12 performer at Washington, though he projected to be more of a project in the NBA.
As a rookie, he spent most of his time with the Reno Bighorns in the D-League. Wroten did manage to sneak into 35 games with the big league club, averaging 2.6 points per game while shooting 72.4 percent from the free throw line, which would prove to be a career-high. He also played in six games during the postseason, averaging less than three minutes per contest.
After the season, he was dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers for a trade exception and a future second-rounder. He spent three seasons with the team and actually averaged double-digit points twice, a small bright spot on some bad Sixers teams. Oddly enough, he rejoined the Grizzlies off waivers in June 2016, only to be waived weeks later, then re-signed with the team again in August, only to be waived again in October.
Wroten spent this year in Spain with Joventut Badalona, averaging 11.2 points per game. He is reportedly considering an NBA comeback, despite not playing a game in the league since 2016.
