9. Wesley Iwundu

Tom Thibodeau is going to love Wesley Iwundu. His 7’1″ wingspan gives him the ability to contest most perimeter shots, and he’s already shown the willingness to compete on defense.

Check out this play against the league-leading Milwaukee Bucks. Iwundu sees Donte Divincenzo swing the ball around the key, and instinctively sprints to the corner — disrupting Kyle Korver’s 3-point shot.

The metrics back up Iwundu’s defensive prowess.

According to Cleaning The Glass, opponents shoot 3.2 percent worse from 3-point range with Iwundu on the court. His team needs all the help they can get. Orlando is a top-10 defense, but they’re just 26th in opponent 3-point percentage.

The experts at CTG say that Iwundu ranks in the 96th (wings) and 95th (forwards) percentile in shooting foul percentage in the past two seasons, respectively.

Iwundu averages fewer than four shots per game for his career, but in the past two seasons, he’s taken 1.5 free throws per contest. As an 80 percent career free-throw shooter, it’d be nice if Iwundu could get to the line a bit more.

I’m a big fan of Iwundu’s game. He’s a restricted free agent, but his inconsistent playing time provides hope that he’ll be available.
