For LA Clippers and Kawhi Leonard, rest and health are a priority

Here’s what Head Coach Doc Rivers said about how he wanted to play Kawhi during the Orlando games.

"“Kawhi is healthy for the most part. That still doesn’t mean that we don’t want to maintain him and get him through the first eight games and get ready for the playoffs. We want to be smart about this. Not just for Kawhi; it’s with everybody.”"

Last season Kawhi Leonard only played 60 games in the regular season. He wasn’t even an MVP candidate. Due to a quad injury, the Raptors decided to pace him during the regular season for a big return in their investment during the postseason.

Leonard was still an All-Star even though he missed the games. He only had 22 games where he had 30 or more points. In the playoffs, however, he had 14 games with 30 or more points.

He averaged 26.6 points per game in the regular season. In the playoffs, he averaged 30.5 points per game. The proof is in the pudding. Resting Leonard worked. This year he is even more rested than last year due to a pandemic that has swept across the United States.

The Clippers have played 70 games this year. Leonard has only played in 56 of them which is close to last year. He is one of the best talents due to his efficiency when he plays on both offense and defense.

A chance to rest his high motor spells doom for other teams. It’s easier to stay on point when you have chances to rest. The 39 point game proved that point.

“I definitely think the healthiest team will win it all,” Leonard said after the game against the Nets. The LA Clippers have had players out but they have made sure that the most important player which is Leonard is healthy which means a lot.
