2. Consistent offensive from the bench

To win in the playoffs, you not only need your stars to show out and starters to produce, but you need consistent production from your bench so the starting unit doesn’t have to always carry the offense.

When it comes to the Mavs, they have bench production, but it isn’t always consistent. Which will be a must when it comes to playoff time.

In the first game of the restart for Dallas, Trey Burke showed just what he could provide off the bench. Burke dropped 31 points on the Rockets off the bench and helped give the Mavs a chance to win, but they ended up blowing that chance later on. In Dallas’ next game against the Suns and the following one against the Kings, no player on the Mavs bench had more than eight points in either game. Against the Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks, Burke and Maxi Kleber did happen to eclipse double-digits.

Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis won’t need to put up thirty a night to keep the Mavs competitive in the playoffs if they have that extra help on a nightly basis. When that extra production is present, teams now have to gameplan for those other guys more and how to contain them too.

That consistent help from the bench on offense will take the pressure off of the starting unit.
