Philadelphia 76ers: Is Ben Simmons’ injury the final blow for Brett Brown?
By Duncan Smith
Blame Brett Brown?
Since the departure of Sam Hinkie as general manager, organizational chaos has ruled the day. Bouncing from Bryan Colangelo’s tenure (where chaos was the only constant) to Elton Brand (who may or may not know what he’s doing but certainly doesn’t excel at it), not much has made sense from a team-building perspective.
There’s always a fall guy for failure when the worst happens.
For the Sixers, their own fall guy may end up being their head coach, Brett Brown, and Ben Simmons’ injury may hasten the end if and when they fail to make a deep playoff run.
There’s been plenty of buzz in Sixers media and fan circles that without at least an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals, Brown’s job may well be at risk. Whether these expectations are fair or foul, and whether Brown himself is at fault for the failings of the Philadelphia 76ers, may not matter in the end.
Especially for NBA head coaches, fairness is rarely part of the equation, and Brett Brown may find himself learning that the hard way.
