Synergy between coach and team

Coaching is great in the NBA but without the professionalism and discipline that the Raptors display, Nick Nurse’s creativity would be wasted. There may be no more perfect storm in this league than the personnel the Raptors have and their ability to execute Nurse’s evil genius defensive tactics and strategies.

From Kyle Lowry, Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby on down the line, the Raptors have a savvy and intelligent crew that clicks with Nurse. With a different coach, the organization would surely be worse, and a different cast of characters playing for Nurse would surely be unable to replicate the success that this group has enjoyed.

Longevity and continuity between veteran leaders like Lowry and Nurse surely help. Lowry has been a Toronto Raptor since the 2012-13 season, and Nurse came to Toronto as an assistant coach in 2013 following a G-League (then the D-League) championship as the head coach with the Rio Grande Vipers.

There’s plenty of coaching and roster turnover in the NBA, but the continuity between veteran and coach has to help their synergistic relationship. From that relationship and trust comes the manifestation of discipline and the ability for coach and players to function on a string.
