LA Clippers: Hot shooting will help team in the long run
The LA Clippers have realized their potential with their hot shooting so far in Orlando. This could come in handy later in the season.
In a blowout win, the LA Clippers showed what happens when a team plays together. The LA Clippers got their first win of the Orlando games against the New Orleans Pelicans 126-103.
According to NBA.com Paul George said after the game:
"“As a group, we thought we weren’t ourselves. We were trying to get our identity back that we had closing the season out before the pandemic hit. It just hasn’t been us and tonight was a huge emphasis on ball movement, playing comfortable, playing among each other and having fun. I thought you saw that tonight.”"
The Clippers got back to playing the team basketball that they were so well known for playing. They made a franchise-record 25 threes in the game against the Pelicans.
The game had it all. The stars played great, the team played great defense and everybody got involved. Just like a basketball game should be played.
Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were the catalysts for the blowout. George scored 28 points and had eight threes. He has been on a mission since play started and these games mean a lot to him.
He has been through big-time games but hasn’t been able to go to the Finals. You can tell he expects himself to play well every game.
Kawhi Leonard had 24 points. He was more of a Swiss Army knife-type player in the game. He had six rebounds and five assists with a steal. He also added two threes of his own in the game.
Both of their stars had 10 threes combined. The rest of the team followed their lead and had 15 threes combined. In the first half, the team almost set the NBA record for threes in a half with 16 but they set the franchise record.
The Clippers built a lot of chemistry in this game which is necessary for these games. This game is the start of the team becoming championship ready.
If the team is going to become a title winner they will have to get great performances like this every game. George and Leonard consistently playing well opens things up for everybody.
When they drive to the lane or even have the ball everybody pays attention to them. When they score and play great defense like they always do the rest of the team sees that and they follow suit.
George had a moment with Terance Mann displayed the great chemistry this team has.
"“I don’t think they knew how close we were. There were 40 seconds left on the clock, someone was fouled and Terance Mann approached the bench. I told him, ‘Man, We need another 3-point shot for the record.’”"
Mann said on Twitter after the game:
This game was great for the team because they haven’t been the best team in terms of shooting 3-pointers this season but they found out that they can indeed do it and at a historic level.
Now that the Clippers learned something about themselves it will further help them understand who they really are. The 3-point shot gets everybody involved and it helps positively affect every other aspect of the game.
The LA Clippers have found their shot and unlocked their potential in Orlando and that could spell trouble for other teams that will try to compete with them.
