The young guns

During the three scrimmages leading up the NBA restart, the rookies and younger players had their time to shine and were quite impressive in doing so.

From the center position, Robert Williams showed that he can in fact be a dominant player for the Boston Celtics, as he has had trouble staying healthy since he was drafted in 2018. The Celtics are hoping that Williams will be a force as a rim protector as they truck through the playoffs.

Both Carsen Edwards and Tremont Waters have improved immensely through their time in the G-League with the Maine Red Claws and it’s proving to be invaluable for the Celtics as they move forward with the future of their franchise.

Through their progression, Waters earned himself G-League Rookie of the Year and Edwards is feeling more comfortable transitioning into the NBA and played a great game in the Celtics’ final scrimmage against the Houston Rockets.

Romeo Langford has taken positive steps forward as Boston’s top draft selection this year. Although he has had the obvious setbacks due to injury, Langford has shown tremendous resiliency in reforming his shot and playing like a true professional. At the same time, Langford has a knack for efficiently attacking the basket in hopes of becoming a great scorer in the NBA like he was in high school and college just a couple of years ago.

Grant Williams has been the most productive and fitting rookie of the bunch. He is capable of playing multiple positions and roles for the Celtics, but the most intriguing part of Williams’ game is his defensive intensity and approach. The two-time SEC Player of the Year is proving to be a valuable asset for Boston and will be an important piece to the playoff puzzle that the Boston Celtics are building.
