Boston Celtics: What we learned about the C’s during their NBA restart scrimmages
Kemba Walker gave Celtics fans hope
Kemba Walker made a brief, but impressive, appearance for the Boston Celtics for the first time since the All-Star break. He looked refreshed and was definitely a beneficiary of the NBA’s shutdown.
Up until the second scrimmage, the status of Walker’s swollen knee was unknown (and still is). Although he was on a minutes restriction, he showcased enough in just under 10 minutes to give Celtics fans hope upon the restart of the season and seeding games leading up to the playoffs.
Walker completes and balances out the entire team. It is absolutely necessary for him to be as close to 100 percent as possible in order for the Celtics to have any shot in a playoff series. When he is active, more than likely Marcus Smart is running the floor and directing the second unit, which is something the Celtics have needed more of this season.
Celtics coach Brad Stevens did share this little tidbit about the overall plan and health of Walker.
"“He has worked exceptionally hard over the last couple of weeks with a great training plan from our training staff,” Stevens said. (He) will play limited minutes in the first few games with the idea of building him up — hopefully with no setbacks — to the point where he can play normal minutes in playoff games.” – Brad Stevens, per Darren Harrwell of NBC Sports Boston"
