Alex Caruso

We already knew Alex Caruso was going to play a sizable role in the Lakers’ postseason success. His significance in Los Angeles’ plan expanded considerably when Avery Bradley opted out and Rajon Rondo got hurt.

While Caruso isn’t going to be putting up 20 points per night or regularly notching double-doubles, he’s an unquestionable sparkplug off the bench. When the Lakers’ second unit needs an injection of energy, it often comes in the form of No. 4 via a nasty dunk, devastating block or momentum-shifting steal.

Imagine all of those memorable moments from earlier this season, and then put them into a playoff scenario. Now consider that Caruso will be seeing more minutes and will be asked to carry more of the load, and you’ve got a recipe for success. All this means is more opportunities for Caruso to dazzle us with that surprising shine that’s made him a fan favorite in LA.

Don’t get it twisted, though. Caruso isn’t all about flash. He’s an exceptional team defender, he’s a reliable shooter and creative passer. Although he’s not a true facilitator, he’s more than capable of giving the Lakers’ second unit a boost when he’s on the floor.

Get ready for copious amounts of Caruso when the season restarts.
