LA Clippers: 3 takeaways from the Orlando scrimmage games
Stars will show up
These games were just scrimmages. Much can’t be decided in the first three games for a title contender but they are practice for the real dog days that are yet to come.
George had 18 in the first game against Orlando and then had 19 points against the Washington Wizards. These games are big for George. He has not made it out of the first round ever since 2013-14.
From his play, you could see how serious he is about finally making it to the NBA Finals. George was able to find open 3-point opportunities and show complete command after being out for all those months.
Leonard on the other hand was not as sharp. That is nothing to worry about though. Leonard’s game is about being physical. His game elevates when he is able to get those drives to the basket that he wants.
You have to remember that Leonard has been under load management during this season and last season. He was most likely in cruise control during the games. Leonard is trying to save himself for the playoffs where it really matters.
He has already shown the ability to carry a team on his back for a playoff run. Leonard was able to get loose with a 17 point game in the last game against the Wizards so when those games start he should be unleashed.
While the games were just scrimmages they told a lot to see who could survive in the Orlando bubble. There is no home-court advantage, players will be out and there will be controversy. In the midst of all that the Clippers were still able to win two out of the three games. For a team with championship aspirations that tells a lot.
