Can the Memphis Grizzlies keep the 8th seed in the Western Conference?
San Antonio Spurs: August 2nd (4 PM ET)
Without All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, who will miss the NBA bubble due to shoulder surgery, the Memphis Grizzlies should have a relatively easy game. DeMar DeRozan is the other reliable primary offensive threat.
The only game the Spurs won in their three-game season series against Memphis was when Aldridge scored 40 points and grabbed nine rebounds while simultaneously making Jackson almost foul out.
The two best scorers may be obvious but Aldridge and averaged 28.3 points over the three games and DeRozan averaged 24.6 points and a surprising 8.6 assists against Memphis this season.
With the Spurs missing Aldridge it should present the Grizzlies a chance to solely focus DeRozan and try to mitigate the role players production as Mills or Derrick White with the other mentioned role players could cause a lot of pain to Memphis’s comparatively weaker bench.
Looking at the Grizzlies performances against the Spurs shows a constant game plan. Jackson plays extremely well offensively against the Spurs backline and in all three games scored 20 points or more, Dillon Brooks on a shooting clinic and Ja Morant doing laps around the Spurs defense and creating opportunities for himself or others.
The plan is; play fast and never underestimate the Spurs.
