New York Knicks: 5 biggest NBA Draft mistakes
4. 2009 NBA Draft
Original pick: Jordan Hill (8th)
Re-Draft: DeMar DeRozan (9th)
Moving on to a much more recent memory, the 2009 NBA Draft is one that most Knicks fans would like to have scraped off their prefrontal cortex, cerebellum and amygdala.
In a star-studded draft class, featuring the likes of Blake Griffin, James Harden and Stephen Curry, all of whom were drafted ahead of New York’s selection, you’d think that it would be impossible to miss out on one somewhat-good NBA player. Well…
The Knicks accepted that challenge and drafted Jordan Hill with the 8th pick, as the Toronto Raptors snatched away DeMar DeRozan with the pick that followed.
DeRozan would go on to become one of the league’s best players and a consistent 20+ point per game scorer. So far, he’s been named an All-Star 4 times and has made both the Third and the Second All-NBA teams.
But hey, Jordan Hill played half a season for the Knicks, before getting traded away for a retiring Tract McGrady. So win-win.
