New York Knicks: The Chicago bubble conundrum
The NBA is contemplating a second bubble site in Chicago for the eight eliminated teams, which could mean more New York Knicks basketball.
After three months without any basketball and the season now set to resume July 30 at Disney World, the NBA is considering a second bubble in Chicago. So, you know what that could mean? That’s right, you guessed it: More New York Knicks basketball!
As reported by ESPN’s Jackie McMullen, the Chicago bubble is meant for the eight eliminated teams to have a “mini-training camp,” with intentions to help those franchises’ players stay in basketball shape and gain valuable repetitions.
However, there are speculations about the Chicago bubble because of the severity of COVID-19, the massive cost for one bubble site, and the month process just to play four games.
Coaches and players (and fans, of course) of these eight teams have many feelings as to whether they should be competing. Some feel it’s an excellent opportunity, especially for young athletes, to get back into the groove of basketball, continue development and build team chemistry. Others believe it’s unsafe and a waste of time because of the thorough procedures required to return to games.
The Knicks, who weren’t on the call because they were in the middle of a coaching interview, are rumored to have little interest in attending Chicago and would instead host their own training camp.
Understandably, the Knicks are taking cautious measures because they’d like to protect their players. However, there are some pros and cons for the Knicks participating it the mini-training camp. So, let’s review the positives and negatives about attending the Chicago bubble.
