3-and-D prospect

According to NBADraft.net, the projected 23rd choice will be Jaden McDaniels out of Washington. I personally believe this would be a decent fit for the Nuggets after identifying McDaniels’ strengths.

His freshman season saw him average 13 points per game on 40.5 percent shooting and 33.9 percent shooting from 3. Those aren’t the greatest shooting splits, but it is important to note that McDaniels is 6”9’. By comparison, Jerami Grant was 6”8’ while at Syracuse and he only averaged 12.1 points per game his sophomore year while making a total of six 3-pointers in his two-year career. This past season, Grant shot an even 40 percent from downtown and knocked down 1.4 of them per game.

I think it’s possible and realistic that McDaniels will become a comparable NBA 3-point shooter to Grant, while he also fills out a similar frame and is slightly less athletic than Grant. If that’s the case, his shooting will prove invaluable in the future while his size and movement will allow him to be an effective cutter and off-ball scorer in an offense focused around Nikola Jokic and his passing ability.
