2. Dwyane Wade — 2016–2017 season

Dwyane Wade’s homecoming to Chicago in 2016 was met with much anticipation and high expectations. Many projected him to form a potent scoring tandem alongside Jimmy Butler. While Wade was gradually steering towards the twilight of his career, he still had much left in the tank to contribute on a playoff-contending team.

As it became the case with Rondo’s one season tenure in Chicago, Wade’s run unfolded into a bumpy one. He averaged 18.3 points per game and a player efficiency rating (PER) of 18.5. He failed to make the All-Star Game for the first time since his rookie season.

Some Bulls fans remember his run most with the off-court drama that came with it, such as when he called out his teammates for their lack of effort following a home loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

On the other hand, Wade provided hometown fans with a decent amount of vintage performances. He logged five 30-point games over the season, such as with his 31-point effort against the Sacramento Kings that included a late game-winning fadeaway shot.

Expectations for Wade’s season in Chicago came up short as they became a first-round playoff exit. He wanted to return to the team as he opted into the second-year player option, but the Bulls front office decided otherwise. Both sides agreed to a buyout as the team preferred to rebuild the side with some of their youth talents leading the way.
