3. Collin Sexton

Collin Sexton has a ways to go in his early NBA development, without question. But through two seasons, one thing has become abundantly score: Sexton can score in bunches.

The eighth overall pick in the 2018 Draft wasted little time in showing his propensity to put the ball in the hoop as a rookie. Barely a month after his debut, he was dropping 29 points on the Washington Wizards. By the end of the year, no Cavs rookie had ever made as many threes as Sexton, who averaged 16.7 points per game and shot 40.2 percent from three.

Despite his three-point shooting dragging slightly in 2019-20 (38.0 percent), Sexton’s scoring increased to 20.8 points per game. If he manages to make the same scoring jump in 2020-21, he’ll be one of the best scorers in the entire league.

Of course, like all young Cavs, Sexton needs to be better on the defensive end, although he did show some growth from his rookie season. His shot selection could also be better, as could his passing – he’s averaged 3.0 assists per game each of his first two seasons. While his skills suit the shooting guard role, his 6’1” frame needs to adjust to the point guard distribution role.

Despite his deficiencies, Sexton appears to be the player to build around in Cleveland. That counts for a big something.
