2. Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz could serve as a possible destination for Paul Millsap in this upcoming free agency while reuniting with him as he enters the late stages of his career.

Millsap was drafted 47th overall by the Jazz in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft. He played seven successful seasons with them before signing a contract with the Atlanta Hawks in the summer of 2013.

At 35 years of age, could Millsap return to the team that drafted him? The Jazz would be intrigued to bring in a player of Millsap’s caliber to their current roster. They could look to improve their depth at the power forward position, and Millsap could even compete for that starting role.

Utah will most likely have Mike Conley Jr., Donovan Mitchell, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Rudy Gobert locked into starting roles at the beginning of next season, leaving the power forward position open for competition.

As of now, those options include Royce O’Neale and Joe Ingles, who are mainly small forwards, or even Georges Niang. Millsap could be an excellent addition to head coach Quin Snyder’s rotations with his defensive presence joining Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert in the frontcourt and other strengths fitting into Utah’s system.

However, the Jazz could have complications with offering Millsap the appropriate contract since they may not have enough cap space. They aren’t projected to have more cap space than teams such as Denver and Miami, and they also have other decisions they need to make in free agency that include whether or not to re-sign Jordan Clarkson.

If the Jazz and Millsap have a mutual interest in each other and can agree to terms on a contract during free agency this offseason, Millsap could then be headed back to Salt Lake City.
