Joe Johnson

One last chance is all Joe Johnson needs, and the Suns are certainly the team that can consider Iso Joe for one more shot at an NBA career.

That sounds dramatic considering Johnson was a monster in his prime and a seven-time All-Star. Still, Johnson has some decent potential to show up as a wise veteran off-the-bench for the Suns. While the option of signing with a contender is intriguing for the 38-year-old Johnson, it wouldn’t hurt for Phoenix to consider him as a piece.

After tearing up the BIG3 league in summer and winning MVP on the way to a league championship, Johnson became a flowing free agency consideration, since people weighed up the options on whether he could do this on the next level. While the experiment flopped for the Detroit Pistons, why not give it another go for a team that could use him?

Even then, the Suns could even consider him a veteran mentor for someone like Kelly Oubre Jr. for next season. It would be an intriguing idea for the Suns to sign him, even if he doesn’t actually provide a super reliable scoring presence as consistently. He still knows his place as a veteran role-player, and Phoenix could go well with handing him a veteran’s minimum. But, don’t be surprised if Johnson considers a championship contender since he’s at that age of chasing rings now.

For what he’s worth, the Suns could consider Johnson for another stint, since well, he didn’t have a great year the last time he was there.

Johnson isn’t a bad option for the Suns, and it wouldn’t hurt for them to actually sign him to a minimum contract.
