A closer look at the all-time five greatest players in Dallas Mavericks franchise history that only ended playing one season with the team.

The Dallas Mavericks are one of just many franchises in the NBA that has an eye on taking their chances with long-time veterans. They aspire to bring in the leadership and experience these veterans possess to bolster their team even further. This has been on display as a front office strategy for the team over the past decades.

Not every acquisition turned out in the Mavericks’ favor. They acquired talents such as Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman and two-time NBA champion Lamar Odom to bring in that much-needed veteran presence.

Whether for a poor fit with the team or injuries, Rodman, Odom and many others spent only one underwhelming year with the team while several them didn’t even make it to the conclusion of the season.

Then there are other cases where Dallas’ low risk, high reward move pays off. This is the case with these select notable five players. They all spent one year in Dallas before moving on but proved they were worth the hassle of bringing in.

More importantly, most on this list provided the much-needed spark to push the team into the playoffs, where talents go from being a fan favorite to legends.
